Top-ranked Sabalenka Wins Consecutive WTA Top Player Awards.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second straight season.
The 27-year-old captured four tournament victories – the highest tally on the circuit – including successfully defending the US Open this past September against Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth Grand Slam singles triumph.
A Year of Consistency
Over the course of the tour, Sabalenka played in a circuit-leading nine championship matches, with defeats coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The Belarusian also won the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open in May. She remained the whole season as the top-ranked player, concluding 2025 atop the rankings for a second straight year.
This past summer, she became the first athlete to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Historic Achievements
Sabalenka ended the competitive year with a sixty-three to twelve win-loss record, and collected a historic eleven million pounds in tournament winnings.
She earned nearly 80% of the votes cast by global tennis journalists.
On 28 December, she is scheduled to face 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match with the aim of "raise women's tennis to a higher level".
Other WTA Award Recipients
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, was voted after taking 13-month break following the arrival of her daughter and making her comeback to the sport earlier this season.
- Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko received the award after beginning the season ranked outside the world's top 300 and soaring to world number 18.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were selected after capturing their second career Grand Slam title together.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after advancing to five championship matches.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz took home three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was voted the fan favorite for a third time.
